White Sand Walls: original oil painting on canvas by Yi Xiang Xu I especially liked the imagery of this painting, as it is a true picture of the state of things, in China, as I see them every day. Four piggies, positioned, as if feeding from the slop trough, unaware, uncaring, or unfazed by a building that has collapsed in front of them. The truth is that, in their rush to become wealthy and respected by the rest of the world, many Chinese businesses and the government are piggy. They use short cuts and substandard methods and materials. There is no focus on safety or concern quality of products or environment but only on accruing wealthy: as much and as quicly as possible. Thus, there are buildings, like the recent apartments, in Shanghai, that just fall over. There are people who are poisoned by pollution or unsafe materials, in products. All, in the pursuit of profits. This is a great piece of social commentary art. It is one of the first paintings that we have gotten into ouir gallery from this young artists, and we hope to see more good work from him. |
