808. | Season of Love, original
oil painting by Shen Jian Wei (2012) When we went to visit Shen recently, he had just finished this painting. We asked him if he would make any others, like Tranquility, which has a calmer surface and plays with reflection and larger swells in the water, and he said no, he did that before. But we are happy that he still likes the more complicated situations presented by smaller ripples, reflection, diffraction, bubbles and distortions, like this one, which is more like one he did with this complex situation, in water, back in 2008. Shen's amazing attention to detail always renders good paintings, and the more complex the situation, the more interesting are his works. This one is quite special. |

792. | Ripples #2, original oil painting by
Jian Wei Shen (2011) Shen's passion and specialty is water. He likes the challenge of depicting water with it's reflective and refractive properties and it's ripples. The fish are added in, so that he can properly display those properties of water, using them, as a background. Shen's paintings are always interesting, and we especially like those in which the water is more disturbed, like this one. |

Flowers Always Open,
original oil painting by Jian Wei Shen (2010) Shen had his own interior design company for about a decade because he likes to get involved in detailed artistic undertakings. Flowers are a common subject of art, and some Chinese painters fixate on flower paintings. With Shen, it is about the challenge of really bring detail to flower paintings, making them a cut above the normal flower painters' paintings. You can see the detail in the fine coloration, curves, and chiaroscuro in this painting of roses. |
