Holland Windmill: original oil painting on canvas by Meng Liu Chinese art has been merging with Western art for several centuries, especially, in the last hundred years. Thos fathers of contemporary Chinese oil paintings from the early 1900's did not just read about Western painting techniques but went abroad to learn about Western art and, also, to experience the culture. Of course, during the rein of Chairman Mao, no one was allowed to leave the country, and those who had been abroad were always suspect. Thus, we particularly enjoy seeing art done by Chinese artists about their current experiences outside of China. This scene from a small village in the Netherlands with its windmill, in the background, is a nice part of Meng Liu's personal log of his travels abroad. Baiyun Hotel: Tallest Building in China, original oil painting by Li
Jin Ming (1978) The Baiyun Hotel, on Huanshi Lu was a landmark in China’s drive to start to catch up with the rest of the world after the Cultural Revolution, and it still a landmark, in Guangzhou, today. It was the tallest building, in China, when it was built; it was 3 stars, then, and 5 stars, now. The writing on the top urged the world to unite, as opposed to the workers, which is the differnce between Deng Xiao Ping and Mao Zedong. Although the Baiyun Hotel is still there, today, the background has substantially changed, now dotted with tall buildings. To see more of the art of Li Jin Ming (Jin Ming Li; Jin Ming Lee), included in the Leona Craig Art Gallery, please visit the Jin Ming Lee Pages. |

Among the Flowers: original oil painting on canvas by Hong Ji Ling (Ling Hong Ji) Hong Ji Ling (Ling Hong Ji) was born in Guangzhou in the mid-1940's and he has already passed away. He graduated from the Guangzhou fine arts institute in 1970, but his work had been collected internationally before he even graduated from art school. His works display great talent and care in finishing the fine details. It is a gray day made bright by the colorful flowers growing along the path to this house. The style is realistic and it has the feel of misty air just after a rain. We have several works by Hong Ji Ling on display at the Leona Craig Gallery. To see what is currently available, please, visit the Hong Ji Ling Page |

Snow Village: original oil painting on canvas by Dapu (Ai Min Zhang) 2008 This is a wonderful painting (see hyperlink for a better view) of a village on the Tibetan plateau, in the winter with a little snow. A woman is walking down a path to the village followed by a little lamb. Crows fill the air on the left and the village fills most of the background. It must be spring, as the snow is partly melted, and Dapu tells us that he can only paint in the spring, summer, and fall, as the temperatures on the Tibetan plateau region are much too cold, in the winter, to be outdoors painting and there are tons of snow. A student of Li Zheng Tian, who gave him his name, Dapu is a newer, relatively undiscovered artist (except by a few astute collectors) whom we have recently discovered for inclusion, in the Leona Craig Art Gallery. He brings us wonderful paintings from the area around the border between China and Tibet. This is one of his larger paintings at 150 by 80 cm. We offer several works by Dapu (Zhang Ai Min), in the Leona Craig Art Gallery Catalogue. To see other offerings and paintings, just click on: The Dapu Page |
