Flower of the Miao People, oil
painting on canvas Li juxtaposed the lotus flower, a symbol of the
feminine, in China, dating back several millennia. The symbolism,
in the painting, is even more deep. They say that, even though the
lotus grows out of the mud, it grows up pure and clean. It is much
like how the simple Miao girl has grown up, free of all of the things in
the outside world that can pollute ones mind or soul.
It is a very beautiful painting that shows Li’s
mastery of realism and portraiture.
The paintings of Li Jin Ming have been chosen for limited edition commemorative Chinese stamp sets, in honor of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games, and this painting has bee chosen for the cover of the collectors' set. You can read more about that on our Leona Craig blog. To see more of the works of Jin Ming Li (Li Jin Ming), included in the Leona Craig Art Gallery on-line, please, visit the Jin Ming Lee Page. |

163. | Twilight Road: original oil painting on canvas by Dapu (Zhang Ai Min) 2009 When I met Dapu a few years ago, I was very pleased. I could tell he had talent, and he also listened to my critique of his work, which is a good thing for any professional to do. He was happy to meet me, too, because he though that I really understood his work, and, prior to meeting me, most of his works went directly to big collectors, leaving him little chance for exposure. I have seen good development and experiment with differing styles from him, and this painting shows me that he has really grown, as an artist: it is pure expressionism. In fact, other dealer, when they see this painting, think that it from a much more mature artist. It is a wonderful step in Dapu's artistic development, and we are pleased to be able to present this work to you. Lighting the Passion: original oil painting on canvas by Zhao Qian Xu (2008) This painting has so much movement and life captured in it: it is lit up by passion. When you see it, you can almost hear the music and the din of the crowd, in the background. The darker orange colors also give the feeling that one is in a nightclub, listening to fine jazz. Zhao Qian Xu is a talented artist with a good range of styles and an understanding of composition and technique. Under the Bamboo: Xiang Xiu hand embroidered landscape This Xiang Xiu style embroidery art scene, made in Hunan, is another typical Chinese country scene. The bamboo on the shores of the river grow tall and thick, providing an embracing effect. There is the typical Chinese flat-bottom boat, in the foreground, that can be seen everywhere in China, in the water villages that dot the country, near the rivers and streams. In the background, there is a lone cow grazing in the field (cows are very scarce, in China, and it is usual to see lone cows or only several, at most. The embroidery, itself, measures around 37.5 x 29.5 cm; with the beautiful fram, shown in the picture, the measurement is 67.5 x 57 cm. To see more of the Xiangxiu (Xiang Xiu) embroidery art, included in the Leona Craig Art Gallery, online, please visit the Xiangxiu Embroidery Page. |

Little Stream, original oil painting on canvas by Meng Liu Although it is a simple landscape scene, it is very Chinese. The misty mountains, in the background, remind me of many actual scenes that I have seen, in China. In China, there are mountains everywhere, even running into the sea, and the variety of mountains is endless. Meng Liu is a fine artist from Shenyang, in the north of China, and we always love his work. Metamorphosis series number 16, original
oil painting portrait by Tang Hai Guo In Tang's metamorphosis series, he is pointing to the changes that people undergo because of materialism and greed, which are big problems in modern Chinese society. Just like a hanger will change its shape when too much weight is hung on it, people will change with the stress that the current society puts on them to earn enough money to live like normal people do, in the rest of the world. Having gone through the hardships of the great famine of half a century ago and the ravages of the cultural revolution of Mao, the society has been left with collective fear of not having enough and the envy of those who have accumulated so much since those times. Those things have caused greed to run rampant, but greed changes a person on both the inside and the outside.
