Red Flowers, original oil painting on canvas by Zhao Qian Xu (2008) Xu concentrated on flower paintings, back a few years ago. I particularly liked this one, not only because it was an oil painting, while most of them are watercolors, but also because of the intense colors and the unusual setting. In this painting, the flowers are in a vase on a table, on a balcony with a cityscape, in the background. When I asked Zhao Qian Xu what kind of flowers these were, he told me that they were just from his imagination. It is beautiful and bright, and we love the style and the setting. Tang Hai Guo (2012) You dress up. You wear glasses and a tie to make yourself look important, but after commuting back and forth to work on crowded trains, you're left feeling like a withered flower. Tang derives his impetus from the 20th century German schools. His animal works are symbolic with the animals, symbols of man. Forest #2: original oil painting on canvas by Dapu (Zhang Ai Min) 2009 This painting is actually the painted expression of a song from the Hakka minority people of China. Dapu told us that he painted this abstract expressionistic scene of a forest while singing the song, and the paintings has actually captured the excitement and emotion that he was feeling, while singing. One of the things that we appreciate most about Dapu, aside from the fact that he has settled on the Tibetan Plateau to paint the scenes and the lives of people, there, is that he is constantly evolving and experimenting in his art. We just love this one. To see more of the art of Dapu (Zhang Ai Min; Ai Min Zhang), included in the Leona Craig Art Gallery online, please, visit the Dapu Page. |

Fall, original watercolor The focus of this painting is color contrasts.
Li was actually inspired to do this painting when he came upon a print
in the hallway of a hotel where he was staying. Although the print
had no important content, it was alive with color and made him feel
exhilarated, like after having a cup of coffee, in the morning.
Thus, he went on to create this colorful scene. It is a typical water
village scene, done in an atypical style. The browns and oranges
of fall are made even brighter than in reality. The greens are
lush and rich, and the blues are so deep. Those things along with
the ducks in the water, give new life to fall, which is the season when
life is usually, in decline. It is all simply an expression of
Li’s optimism, in any situation, and with is he wanted to bring a bright
outlook to others. |

White Horse Temple (Fat Jong Si), original oil painting on canvas by Dapu (Zhang Ai
Min), 2010 White Horse Temple (Fat Jong Si) is a Buddhist complex carved into the end of a mountain range (see aerial photos on the link page), located in Ping'an County of Qinghai Province, on the Tibetan Plateau. In Dapu's painting, we also see the white dagoba dome, which is typical of Tibetan Buddhist temple complexes, in the foreground. Monks in red robes are seen wandering throughout the complex. The style is the more sophisticated abstract impressionist style that Dapu has grown into, lately. The colors are rich with the reddish-browns and the tans and yellows, it is a beautiful painting of one of Dapu's favorite topics: the Buddhist temples in Qinghai.
