Hague Harbor, painting by Jin Ming Li

Hague Harbor, original propylene painting by Jin Ming Li (1986) 海牙港湾 丙烯

This is a study for a larger painting that Li would go on to paint.  He says that the one thing that impressed him about Holland was that it was a country filled with color, and he wanted to bring that impression into his painting of this harbor scene near the Dutch parliament buildings.

We offer several works by Jin Ming Lee (Li Jin Ming), in the Leona Craig Art Gallery on-line.  To see our current offerings, just click on: Jin Ming Lee Page.

"Plum Flowers": Chinese hand-embroidered scene 134b. Plum Flower: Xian Xiu hand embroidered still life

As the words, in Chinese characters on this Xiangxiu style Chinese hand-embroidered picture lament: only the plum flower is strong enough to stand up to the winter, while other flowers come out only in the spring.  I believe that there is a message in that.

It is a simple, yet beautiful piece, after the more traditional form of Chinese picture art.  It is from a series of four such pieces, done on a golden background with simple rich golden brown and light white colors.

They are not overpowering, in size, either.  This one and the rest measure 47.5 cm by 32.5.  It comes, as shown, matted and framed under glass.

Red leaf fall: hand-embroidery landscape scene 133. Red Leaf Fall (small): Xiang Xiu hand embroidered landscape

If you liked the larger version of this picture, but you don't have room for such a large wall hanging,  you might want to settle for this version, instead.  The difference between this one and the larger rendition is partly accomplished by scrunching the stream into a narrower version, by cutting off some of the scene around the sides, and by diminishing some of the detail.  However, the work, itself, is by no means diminished.  The colors, the details, and workmanship, in this Xiangxiu style Chinese embroidery, still make this an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship that you will be proud to own.  It's just easier to find room for this smaller one to show it off and enjoy it.  Framed and matted under glass, 52 x 62 cm.
