Working Day and Night to Move: original oil painting by Yi Xing Ma,
1994-96 This is the first, in a suite of four paintings, inspired by Ma's move from Hangzhou to Shanghai, in the mid-1990's, all of which we have available, in the Leona Craig Art Gallery. They are dark, surrealistic, and deconstructed, conveying Ma's feelings at the time. There was so much preparation for this move, not only in packing boxes but also, emotionally, thinking ahead to a new life in a new city, and thinking about what will be left behind. There is always much preparation and stress in a move, whether it is a move from one abode to another or a life move. We offer the entire suite of four paintings for $240,000. For more of the art of Yi Xing Ma (Ma Yi Xing, included in the Leona Craig Gallery, please visit the Yi Xing Ma Page. |

706. | Red Peonies: original oil painting on canvas by Zhao Qian Xu (2003) Peonies are the China national flower. Over the last several years Zhao Qian Xu had been concentrating on painting flowers, although most of the paintings were watercolor. Thus, this oil painting of peonies is doubly exceptional. Moreover, most of the flower paintings that Xu has done were focused on the flowers and did not present them, in a scene, on a table, as he has, in this one. The colors are vibrant with its blues and reds, and we think that it is a very beautiful and thoughtful work. To see more of the art of Zhao Qian Xu (Xu Zhao Qian), included in the Leona Craig Art Gallery online, please, visit the Zhao Qian Xu Page. |

Slicing Lamb: original oil painting portrait by Dapu (Zhang Yang) 2006 In this painting, we are looking over the shoulder of a boy, who is of the Zang people, while he is slicing off pieces of lamb to eat as a snack. He wears the traditional long rolled-up hair of the Zang on the Tibetan Plateau with a bright red head band and a hoop earring in his ear. It is s simple, yet beautiful portrait with its soft pastel colors framing the dark hair and skin of the boy. It is an interesting portrait, done as though the artist quickly captured the boy's private action, unaware that he was being observed. In that regard, it reminds me of a painting by Dali, in which he painted a seated matron from behind. We have seen a number of sides of Dapu (Ai Min Zhang) with varying artistic technique and composition of his paintings. In fact, this one was done, in 2006, under the name Zhang Yang before his mentor, the famous painter-philosopher Zheng Tian Li (Li Zheng Tian), named him Dapu. We believe that Dapu has great potential as an artist, and, having recently discovered him, we are adding his work to our gallery and our collection. We offer other works by Dapu, included in the Leona Craig Art Gallery on-line. To see other paintings, just click on: The Dapu Page. |
