	715.	Poplar forest by the River, original oil painting on canvas by Meng Liu (Liu Meng) We liked the artistic ability that Meng Liu has shown in this painting of a simple, yet, complex, subject. It is a white poplar forest with a river running through it, and Liu has done an especially nice job in the way he has shown reflections in the water, while, also, giving it froth and movement. The colors are cool and soothing, mirroring the cool refreshing feeling of the scene. From the north of China, in Shenyang, the capital of China, under the Qing Dynasty, Liu concentrated on impressionistic painting during the 1990's and early 2000's, and this painting is from that period. Fishing is still a big part of life, there, and when we visit we always see all kinds of little boats pushed onto the rocky shores. The views include a seascape dotted with little islands, the submerged peaks of mountains stretching into the sea. I always think the views are beautiful, even when it’s cloudy, just like on the day Jin Ming painted this picture. The calligraphy says: here, she comes walking; she pauses in the midway. 	796.	The Gardener, original oil painting by Tan Xue Sheng Rarely does Tan include people in his paintings, as he is predominantly a landscape painter. Thus, it is a special treat to find one with people. In South China, there are so many plants and flowers, and towns and even the highway departments plant flowers all around.
