Ox by He Pan (潘鹤) (2008) The ox is one of the animals in the Chinese zodiac, but, more importantly, it is Pan He's zodiac sign. In fact, they say he made this one to commemorate the latest bull year, 2008, when he turned 84, and it was originally part of one of the Hakka series. It is a thoughtful piece with the earnest expression that the hard-working ox should have. It was made with the love that one should have for one's zodiac animal. It is an opportunity to own a meaningful work by this great Guangdong artist, the Michelangelo of China. Sitting Leopard Gongchun: original
one-of-a-kind teapot art by Sun Jin Li This is a teapot from Sun Jin Li's forest series. In this series, the focus is on the animals, which are done in extreme detail, in miniature. If you look at them with a magnifying glass, you can see detailed etching of "fur", and features of ears, mouth, nose, eyes, paws and claws, and body are all done with great precision with different colors of clay (see close-up on hyperlink page). This one is on a tree stump with an unusual shape, more like a gong chun style teapot, and three small feet. The other thing that we like about the teapot art in the series is that Li has committed to making only one teapot of each that he makes in the series. So, each is complete unique: one of a kind (Li, himself, has sold teapots from this series for as much as $10,000). Duck Negotiations, original cast bronze sculpture by Xu Hong Fei [series
of 10] (2008) We are left to wonder if the duck just came through the window, and the woman is trying to coax him out of the house, or if, as is common in China, she bought him at the market and is trying to coax him into the kitchen. Either way, it is a cute sculpture from Xu's famous chubby series. To see more of the sculpture of Xu Hongfei, included in the Leona Craig Art Gallery, please, visit the Xu Hong Fei Pages. |

Marx Smiling, original wire sculpture by Pan Fang (2009) Well, we suppose that every Chinese artist has to make at least a few "red" sculpture. Of course, the title might suggest that Fang is playing with us, as, if that is a smile, then, it suggests that Marx was not a happy man. |
